The remarkable irony is that mankind's greatest achievements are that of death.

Thanks. That's Ennio Morricone - The Ecstasy of Gold from the movie "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly".

facinating... its the only man-made weapon that can be compared with natures destructive damage.. only wish it could be the other way, that it could be compared with the natures magic of giving life instead... but what the hell life sux end of story;P probobly gonna be a nukewar thats ending life on this planet anyways, nice to see how it looks like on distance before we experience it in close distance.. ,p

Someone once said that if you can manage to put aside the fact these bombs were made to kill really large numbers of people really fast, they're actually quite beautiful sights going off. When viewed from a safe distance, of course. There's something majestic (and eerie at the same time) about watching a multimegaton fireball slowly creeping upwards in the distance, in total silence, illuminating the entire scene. Probably one of those life-altering experiences.

I wish there were still nuclear tests just for viewing. Technology today could have captured much higher quality footage. I would have gone to watch one. Instead we only get analogue footage from the 50/60s. Anyone know what that test is from at 1:15? Almost looks like there was a 2nd explosion in the white water. I guess that was caused by the steam expansion.

Would the damage be covered by insurance? Do we all get FEMA cards afterwards?

you better hope there are no more nuclear tests, this video scared the shit outa me. those things were made to kill millions of innocecnt people very quickly, not for someone to watch. but ugowar has a point in saying they are majestic, you just understand the sheer amount of force needed to do someting like that

Personally I think the most beautiful is the initial fireball formation of Castle Bravo at the beginning of the video.

That's not Castle Bravo, that's one of the smaller ones on operation Castle, within 5 megatons or such. It's probably not running at realtime speed either.
